At Broward County intersection with a malfunctioning traffic signal, Torres-Hodgins, on route to a check on a friend, is killed when a westbound SUV crashes into her stopped car. Perez is seriously injured.
Excerpt from a Sun-Sentinel news article on 9-7-2004:
A similar situation at Nob Hill Road and Commercial Boulevard in Broward County had deadly results Sunday, officials said.
The intersection’s traffic lights were flashing red in all directions when Geena Torres-Hodgins, 33, of Tamarac, heading south on Nob Hill Road, collided with a Chevrolet Suburban westbound on Commercial Boulevard, Broward County Sheriff’s officials said.
Torres-Hodgins died at Broward General Medical Center, sheriff’s spokeswoman Cheryl Stopnick said. Her passenger, Daniel Perez, 37, was listed in serious condition.
The driver of the Suburban, Alejandro [Alex] Dominguez, 43, of Parkland, and his passengers were not injured.
[Note from website author: it was a Chevrolet Avalanche, not a Suburban.]
